Further solo and mixed shows are planned throughout the year forming part of a new period in the renaissance of Cornish art, and the resurgence of Newlyn as a centre of art innovation. Further indications that the area is becoming a hub for the arts is the recent acquisition of an old grammar school in nearby Helston by Nicholas Serota, Director of the Tate Gallery, his wife Theresa Gleadowe and Karen Townshend director of Kestle Barton (and former wife of Pete Townshend of The Who). They have set up The Cornubian Arts and Science Trust (CAST), a charity whose aim is to provide artist studios and workspaces, and a home for classes, meetings and other events.
