On the Perimeter: The Edge of Photography
11 July – 4 August 2013
“Out here on the perimeter there are no stars, out here we are stoned, immaculate” Jim Morrison.
A Curated Group Photographic Exhibition featuring Chloe Sells, Mariah Robertson, Eiko Soga, Jess Littlewood, Emma Critchley, Tommy Taylor, Minhong Pyo and Virgilio Ferrera
The words from Jim Morrison’s poem, later a Doors song, refer to a utopian world out of the control of the politicians and away from the boredom of everyday reality. Whilst the photographers featured in this curated group exhibition do not necessarily seek a utopian ideal they all however do wish escape the world of the conventional photographic image, working on the edge of the medium and examining a world of new ideas.
Using techniques like extended exposures, deliberate errors and external controls they also sometimes even avoid use of the camera altogether. These are exciting and groundbreaking artists pushing the boundaries of the medium and expanding what we now expect from the one word – ‘photography’.
Exhibition runs 11 July – 4 August 2013
