BANA In Practice 2013

44AD to Host BANA Members’ Show 2013

7-13 October, preview, 6.00-8.00pm on Tuesday 8th October

The main gallery at 44AD will be the venue for BANA’s annual members’ show this year – the tenth anniversary of BANA becoming an artist-led limited company. We are delighted to have secured the week 7-13 October for the event, at what is fast becoming Bath’s most accessible and exciting contemporary art space.

Amongst BANA’s featured artists, Béa Kayani is making waves with her series An Echo Of Chaos inspired by and created from water reflections. Works from An Echo of Chaos are to be shown simultaneously at Art At The Heart Of RUH, Bath and New York this October.

BANA Background

BANA stands for Bath Area Network for Artists. Although BANA is based in Bath we have artist members from all over the South West who exhibit in our shows and take an active part in our events and our development as an organisation. Our visual artists exhibit a diverse range of work from painting to photography, illustration to sculpture, and glass work to performance.

On the website you can find arts news and information about events – such as talks and exhibitions published by our artists – as well as arts-related articles and information about our membership. Each artist has their own web page where you can view their work and find out about their practice. BANA members also have access to a Jobs Board, updated weekly, which lists a wide range of opportunities for artists in the region.

BANA is about connecting creativity. We aim collectively to promote the visual arts and to raise the profile of arts activity, by establishing and strengthening links between artists, artists’ groups and art promoters. We also advocate for increased investment in arts activities and share information, opportunities, advice and skills with our artists. Our website blog encourages collaboration and the opportunity for artists to find support for their practice and to share ideas.

BANA began in 1998 as an association of like-minded artists and since 2003 has been a private company limited by guarantee. BANA is run by a voluntary management committee of artists who are unpaid directors of the company, elected annually. The current directors are Emily BarkerDavid MetcalfeBella Brown and Bea Kayani. BANA is an active member of the Cultural Forum for the Bath Area, an independent coalition of cultural and sports organisations who work together for mutual benefit and the benefit of the Bath area overall.

BANA welcomes as members any artists working in the Bath area and the South West in general who are dedicated to professional arts practise and who wish to promote themselves and engage with other artists.

Run by the dynamic Katie O’Brien, 44AD is home to a number of practising artists (including BANA members) as well as being an exhibition space. With no long-term tenure at the site (the old pet shop off Lower Borough Walls), Katie is making the most of the opportunity of this central Bath location for as long as it lasts.
