GRIFFIN ART PRIZE COME TO THE COTSWOLDS | OPENING EVENT SUNDAY 19 JANUARY 3-6PM
Griffin Prize | Touring Exhibition
Champagne View | Sunday 19 January | From 3 – 6pm
High House is pleased to announce that the prestigious Griffin Art Prize (GAP) will be touring to the gallery this coming January. This is the first time the GAP has been shown outside its west London home and High House has been selected for its first stop.
If you are a local Oxon/Glos resident we are certain that you will appreciate that it is a great honour that this important show has decided to visit the area. We look forward to your support and hope that you can make it to the opening Sunday event.
The prize is an independent annual award aimed at supporting the UK’s most talented emerging artists and is open to anyone who has graduated from university or art college within the last five years. It has a growing reputation for the quality of its selected shortlists and is well respected by artists and art critics alike.
Luke George and Elizabeth Rose have been named as this years (2013) winners of whom Zavier Ellis, Griffin Art Prize Judge said: “We are very pleased to present the Griffin Art Prize to Luke George & Elizabeth Rose. The quality of applicants was very high this year and the shortlist was varied in style, medium and genre so it was not easy. However, we were impressed with the way that George and Rose have harnessed the history of abstraction whilst giving us something technically new and visually engaging.”
George & Rose’s prize entry ‘Gate’ will be on show at High House along with a wide selection of other works from the GAP Shortlist Exhibition. These include a range of media from painting and drawing, to photography, printmaking and installation. The shortlisted artists include Eleanor Bedlow, Emily Moore, Mary Wintour, Luke George & Elizabeth Rose, Helen Frank, Nicole Wong, Rae Hicks, Scott Robertson, Susannah Douglass and Yuhwa Son.
The shortlist exhibition will tour to White Moose Gallery in Devon later in February 2014.
Exhibition runs until 16 Frebruary 2014 / Thursday – Sunday 11am – 5pm.
