Painted Surface: Call for Submissions
At Surface Gallery this summer, artists are invited to explore ‘what is painting today?’
With its long and rich history, painting has always been a respected medium of artistic expression. Inspiration taken by artists from the surrounding world have allowed it to evolve and redefine its meaning in a constantly changing culture. It is vital to see how painting continues to develop in a world of prominent and diversified visual culture dominated by modern technology.
Painted Surface will examine the sheer diversity to be found in contemporary painting practice. All artwork that utilises paint will be considered, any theme and any genre, including portraiture, landscapes and abstraction is welcome. Alongside artworks on boards and canvas, painting that examines different methods of presentation is encouraged. We are looking for innovative and critically informed work, as well as technical skill. The show will be held in Surface Gallery’s main exhibition space.
One exhibitor will be awarded a solo show in Surface Gallery’s main exhibition space. This will be an opportunity for the selected artist to showcase new work in a contemporary art gallery. The winner of the prize will be chosen by selection panel.
Deadline for submissions: 5pm Friday 17th July 2015.
Application packs can be downloaded from surfacegallery.org/opportunities or paper copies can be picked up from the gallery during opening hours.
