Now in its fifth year, the WAC Awards have enjoyed a rapid and rising reputation. Originally started in response to the withdrawal of funding for the Arts, the competition aims to promote understanding and enjoyment of contemporary visual art whilst supporting and encouraging both emerging and established artists. Open to artists in all media, selected works are exhibited in the heart of the beautiful City of Wells, Somerset in October. Past exhibitions have attracted good media attention and an interested & informed viewing public. The winning artist later exhibits at the prestigious 45 Park Lane venue in London’s Mayfair. We are proud that a large number of renowned contemporary artists and academics are willing to be involved as judges and curators.

“The experience of being selected for the Wells Art Contemporary has been a pleasure and an extraordinary experience. The selectors and fellow artists were of the highest quality and the final curated exhibition in Wells was beautifully realised. The selectors were key figures in the UK contemporary art scene and reflected the ambition of the competition. I would recommend the experience to other artists. I was thrilled to win and it has provided me with the fantastic opportunity to exhibit at 45 Park Lane.”
Paul Vivian – First Prize winner 2015
