‘A is for donkeys, and frolicking in.
B is a black and gold buzz with a sting…’

A month-long free exhibition featuring the combined talents of a Bath-based writer and an Italian illustrator will be on display in the Stairwell Gallery from Mon 30th Jan to Fri 24th Feb 2017.

The exhibition’s opening coincides with the official launch of a stylish and quirky alphabet book, ‘A is for Donkeys’, a first-time collaboration between Jonathan Hope and Riccardo Guasco.

The two met when Riccardo, whose work has previously appeared in The New Yorker and Vogue, posted an image of himself and his wife in front of the Royal Crescent on a room rental website. The ad was seen by Jonathan’s partner, Yvonne, and the Italian couple soon moved into her Cardiff home.

Yvonne and Riccardo initially created the book for a surprise party to mark Jonathan’s 50th birthday, held at The Pig Near Bath, in Pensford.

‘A is for Donkeys’ is described by Bath-based children’s literature expert Dr Alison Waller as ‘a gem of a book for all phonetics-phobic adults, linguistically curious children and fun-seeking English language learners and teachers.’

Signed copies are available through 44AD, Mr B’s Emporium of Reading Delights and Oldfield Park Bookshop.
