IMMA Open Call

IMMA is seeking proposals from cultural practitioners to work in response to the IMMA Collection: Freud Project, 2016 – 2021. Deadline closes on Wednesday 5th April.

Launched in October 2016 the project features 30 of the artist’s finest paintings, and 20 works on paper. Supporting process based research IMMA invites interested candidates to propose contexts and research in their own practice which would explore, contest, expand, complement or radicalise the resonance and impact of the work on show in the Freud Centre and open new possibilities with selected practices.


  • Use a large studio at IMMA for a maximum duration of nine months
  • Separate accommodation at IMMA is available for a maximum duration of nine months
  • A bursary award of €4,000
  • Essential travel costs will be covered, schedule and budget to be approved by IMMA
  • Activation budget to the value of €2,000


  • IMMA welcomes applications from national and international practices
  • Applicants should have familiarity with Freud and the art historical context of his work
  • Applications from individuals and collectives (max. 4 people) will be considered, collectives should nominate one person from the group to submit an application upon their behalf
  • Selection as part of a group does not equate to individual selection
  • Applicants currently in full-time education will not be considered
  • All ages welcome
  • Successful applicants must be present on the residency for a minimum of 90 days within the specified programming period


  • Open Call commences on Friday 10th March 2017
  • Application deadline closes on Wednesday 5th April 2017
  • Selection is complete by end of April 2017
  • Contract agreed and drafted at the beginning of May 2017 from which point research and supports are accessible
